The short answer

What is ecommerce store development?

Ecommerce store development is the design, build and integration of an online store where customers browse products, add to cart and check out. It covers platform selection (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento or a custom headless build), storefront design, payment integration, inventory and 3PL integration, conversion optimisation and ongoing growth.

The storefront is the visible part. What decides whether a store makes money is underneath it: product data your team can maintain, a checkout that does not leak customers, stock that stays accurate across channels, and pages fast enough that paid traffic is not wasted. We build those parts first, because they are the expensive ones to retrofit.

SpiderHunts Technologies is a UK-registered company with its registered office in London and the whole team in Lahore. Since 2020 we have delivered projects for more than 1,000 clients, and we build ecommerce stores designed to convert, scale and integrate cleanly with your ERP, marketing stack and fulfilment partners.

What we build

Ecommerce development services we provide

Pick the slice that fits your project. Each one is delivered to the same standard: integrated, measured and handed over so your team can run it.

09

Headless storefronts

Storefronts on Next.js, Hydrogen or Astro in front of Shopify or another commerce back end, for brands that need full design freedom and are ready for the extra engineering that comes with it.

Why stores underperform

Most stores don’t fail on design. They fail on the plumbing.

A theme can be installed in an afternoon. The problems that cost revenue sit in checkout, product data, integrations and speed: and they are the parts a quick build skips.

A store built in a hurry

  • A theme with a dozen apps bolted on, each adding script weight to every page
  • Stock updated by hand, so items oversell on one channel while sitting unsold on another
  • A checkout with surprise costs and too many steps, and nobody measuring where buyers drop out
  • Orders re-keyed into the accounting system or emailed to the warehouse
  • A replatform that forgot redirects, and organic traffic that never came back

A store built by SpiderHunts

  • Only the apps that earn their place, with the rest built into the theme
  • Inventory synced with your warehouse, 3PL or ERP, with alerts when counts drift
  • A checkout tuned for your market’s payment methods, with drop-off tracked in analytics
  • Orders flowing to fulfilment and accounting automatically
  • Every old URL mapped to a new one before launch, and Search Console checked after it

Not sure which platform you should be on?

Tell us what you sell, how many products, and where orders go after checkout. We will recommend a platform and tell you honestly if the one you are on is fine.

Which build fits

The store shapes we build most often

Most ecommerce projects fall into one of these. The platform and timeline follow from the business model, not the other way round.

DTC brand

A single-brand store that needs to launch

A focused catalogue, strong product pages, a fast mobile checkout and email capture from day one. The priority is speed to market and a store the marketing team can run without a developer.

Usually Shopify · 4–8 weeks

Content-led retailer

A store that lives inside a WordPress site

The blog, guides and SEO already bring traffic, and the shop needs to sit alongside them with full control over templates, product types and plugins.

Usually WooCommerce · 4–8 weeks

Trade supplier

B2B ordering with customer-specific pricing

Account customers log in, see their own prices, request quotes and reorder, while approvals and credit terms stay in the back office where they belong.

Shopify Plus, BigCommerce B2B or custom · 8–16 weeks

Marketplace

Many sellers, one storefront

Vendor onboarding, split payments, commission rules and per-vendor fulfilment. Where a multi-vendor app would bend the model out of shape, we build on Next.js and Stripe Connect.

Custom or Sharetribe · 8–16 weeks

Growing brand

Outgrown the first platform

Squarespace, Wix or an old Magento install can no longer keep up. The catalogue, customers and order history move across, and every URL that ranks is redirected.

Migration · 4–10 weeks

Design-led brand

A storefront no theme can produce

Editorial layouts, rich interactions and performance targets that a theme cannot meet, with Shopify still handling products, checkout and orders behind the scenes.

Headless · 8–16 weeks

How we work

From platform choice to a live store in five steps

You see working pages on a staging store early, and nothing goes live until orders have been placed end to end.

  1. Discovery & platform choice

We look at your catalogue, order flow, integrations, markets and growth plans, then recommend a platform with the reasons written down. Free, and yours to keep.

    Free · 30-minute call
  2. Scope & written quote

Page templates, apps, integrations, data to migrate and redirects to map, all listed with exclusions. You get a written quote and an estimated timeline before any build starts.

    3–5 days
  3. Design & build

Mobile-first templates for home, collection, product, cart and content pages, built on a staging store with weekly demos you can click through.

    3–12 weeks
  4. Integrate, migrate & test

Payments, shipping, tax, ERP, 3PL and email connected; products, customers and orders imported; test orders placed on every payment method and device.

    1–4 weeks
  5. Launch & optimise

Redirects and Search Console checked, analytics and Merchant Center verified, then, on an optional retainer, conversion, speed and SEO improvements based on real traffic.

    Launch, then optional retainer

Clear scope · Regular demos · Full handover

Before you spend anything

When a custom store build is worth it: and when it isn’t

A bespoke build is not always the right first step. Here is the line we apply before we quote.

Commission a build when…

  • You have a proven product and traffic, and the store is now the bottleneck
  • Staff spend hours a week moving orders, stock or customer data by hand
  • Your pricing, B2B terms or catalogue do not fit a standard theme and app stack
  • You are migrating platforms and cannot afford to lose search rankings
  • Monthly app subscriptions are approaching the cost of building the features properly

Don’t commission one when…

  • You have not validated demand yet: a well-configured standard theme is enough to test
  • The real problem is product, pricing or traffic rather than the store
  • You want headless because it is fashionable, not because a theme is holding you back
  • Nobody on your side will own product data, content and merchandising after launch
  • The budget leaves nothing for marketing once the store is live

Choosing a platform

Shopify vs WooCommerce vs custom: which should you build on?

We build on all of them, so we have no reason to push one. This is how the trade-offs usually fall.

Second website done with Mr Shahrukh... this last one was more complex.. initially we had some technical difficulties but he restarted from scratch with different platform and everything was flawless afterwards. It will not be the last time I work with him and already recommended him to a close friend.

Ask about your project

Which ecommerce platform should I build on?

Shopify for most DTC brands wanting speed to market and simplicity. WooCommerce when WordPress integration matters or you need plugin flexibility. BigCommerce for mid-market stores with built-in B2B. Magento (Adobe Commerce) for complex enterprise requirements. Custom or headless for unique business models or maximum design freedom. We recommend the platform that fits your business, not the one we prefer.

Do you build on Shopify and WooCommerce?

Yes: both, plus BigCommerce, Magento, custom Stripe-based commerce, and headless storefronts on Next.js, Hydrogen or Astro.

How much does it cost to build an ecommerce website?

As a guide, a standard Shopify or WooCommerce store on a customised theme costs £3,000–£10,000. A custom store with ERP, 3PL or subscription integrations is typically £10,000–£25,000, and Shopify Plus, headless builds and marketplaces start around £25,000. Platform plans, apps and payment fees are separate and paid directly by you. We give a written quote, with scope and exclusions, after a free discovery call.

How long does an ecommerce store take to build?

A standard Shopify or WooCommerce store typically runs 4 to 8 weeks. Shopify Plus, headless and custom marketplaces typically run 8 to 16 weeks. Migration projects typically run 4 to 10 weeks depending on catalogue size and SKU complexity.

Can you build multi-vendor marketplaces?

Yes. We build multi-vendor marketplaces, B2B platforms and wholesale stores either on Shopify with multi-vendor apps, on a custom stack with Next.js and Stripe Connect, or on specialised platforms like Sharetribe.

Do you integrate payment processors like Stripe, PayPal, Klarna and Apple Pay?

Yes: Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, Afterpay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, regional providers like Bambora, Mollie and Adyen, and local methods like UPI, iDEAL and SEPA where needed.

Can you migrate from one ecommerce platform to another?

Yes. We handle migrations between Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, Squarespace, Wix and custom platforms: product, customer and order data migration, SEO redirects, theme or storefront rebuild, and payment and app re-platforming.

Will I lose my Google rankings if I change platform?

A properly planned migration keeps that risk low, although nobody can promise rankings, because search engines decide them. Before launch we map every indexed product, collection and content URL to its new address with permanent redirects, carry over titles, descriptions and structured data, and resubmit the sitemap. Around launch we check Search Console for crawl errors so issues can be picked up early.

Do you build B2B and wholesale stores?

Yes. We build B2B and wholesale stores on Shopify Plus, BigCommerce B2B, WooCommerce with B2B plugins, and custom B2B platforms with quote management, custom pricing and approval workflows.

Do you handle ecommerce SEO and conversion optimisation?

Yes. Technical SEO, schema markup, Google Merchant Center, Core Web Vitals, checkout optimisation, A/B testing, and Klaviyo and email automation integration: the work designed to turn ecommerce traffic into revenue.

Should I use a headless storefront?

Only if a theme is genuinely holding you back: on design, performance or a multi-brand setup. Headless gives full design freedom, but it means more engineering to build and to own afterwards. For most stores a well-built Shopify or WooCommerce theme is faster to launch and cheaper to run, and we will say so.

Do we own the store after launch?

Yes. The platform account, domain, payment accounts and apps are set up in your name, and ownership of any custom theme or code transfers to you on full payment, as set out in your contract. You can keep working with us on a retainer or take the store to another team.
