The short answer

What does a mobile app development company do?

Mobile app development is designing and building applications that run on iOS and Android phones and tablets. A mobile app development company takes an idea from user journeys and screen designs through development and testing to App Store and Google Play submission: and can keep the app up to date as Apple and Google release new OS versions.

The biggest early decision is the platform. Cross-platform (Flutter or React Native) shares one codebase across iOS and Android and suits most business and consumer apps. Native (Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android) costs more because you build twice, but gives full access to platform features and maximum performance. We recommend whichever is cheaper for your app over its whole life, not just the first release.

SpiderHunts Technologies is a UK-registered company with its registered office in London and the whole team in Lahore. Since 2020 we have built consumer apps, field service apps, marketplaces and enterprise mobile solutions for businesses across the UK, USA, Canada and Europe.

What we build

Mobile app development services

From consumer apps to enterprise mobile platforms. Every app is designed mobile-first, tested on real devices and built for the App Store and Google Play from day one.

01

Cross-platform apps (Flutter)

One codebase, two platforms. Flutter delivers near-native performance on iOS and Android from a single development cycle, cutting cost and time to market without compromising quality.

02

React Native apps

Cross-platform apps for teams with JavaScript skills or an existing React web product, sharing logic and developers across web and mobile.

03

Native iOS apps (Swift)

iPhone and iPad apps in Swift and SwiftUI with full access to iOS APIs: Face ID, HealthKit, ARKit, Apple Pay, Core Data and push notifications.

04

Native Android apps (Kotlin)

Android apps in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, following Material Design, with Play Billing, Firebase, Google Pay and deep Android system integration.

05

AI-powered mobile apps

Image recognition, voice commands, personalisation and chat features via OpenAI, Claude or Gemini APIs: or on-device models with Core ML and TensorFlow Lite for privacy and zero per-call cost.

06

Offline-first apps

Apps that work without a reliable connection, using local storage, background sync and conflict resolution: essential for field teams, inspectors and remote workers.

07

Enterprise mobile solutions

Secure company apps with MDM support, SSO/SAML sign-in, barcode scanning, offline capability and integration with ERP and CRM systems such as SAP and Salesforce.

08

App Store & Google Play launch

Developer account setup, metadata, screenshots, privacy declarations, ratings and review responses for App Store Connect and Google Play Console: plus store listing optimisation.

09

App takeover & maintenance

Apps inherited from another team audited, stabilised and developed further, with OS compatibility updates, bug fixes and sprint-based feature releases.

The problem we solve

Why most mobile apps fail: and how we avoid it

Poor UX, slow performance, store rejections and no support after launch are the usual killers. Each is avoidable when it is planned for from the first wireframe.

Without the right team

  • Confusing UI that leads to uninstalls after the first session
  • Apps rejected by Apple or Google for policy or privacy issues
  • Slow, janky performance on older devices
  • No store listing optimisation, so the app is hard to find
  • Developers who disappear after launch
  • Hidden costs from bugs discovered once users arrive

With SpiderHunts mobile development

  • User journeys and prototypes tested before development starts
  • Submissions prepared against Apple and Google review guidelines
  • Performance tested on real physical devices, not just simulators
  • Store listing optimisation built into the launch
  • Optional support and maintenance plans after launch
  • A written quote with scope and exclusions agreed up front

How we work

Our mobile app development process

Four stages from idea to store launch, with working test builds shared as each sprint completes.

  1. Discovery & wireframes

We map user journeys, define must-have features, choose the platform (Flutter, React Native or native) and wireframe every screen before code, reducing costly rework later.

    Free call · then scoping
  2. Design & prototype

High-fidelity Figma designs following Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design, with an interactive prototype for stakeholder sign-off.

    Before any code
  3. Build & test

Two-week sprints with builds shared via TestFlight and Firebase App Distribution. We test on real devices across screen sizes and OS versions.

    2-week sprints
  4. Store launch & support

Full App Store Connect and Google Play Console submission, with optional support plans for store listing monitoring and sprint-based feature releases.

Before you commission an app

When a mobile app is worth building: and when it isn’t

An app is a product you will maintain for years, not a one-off purchase. Here is the advice we give before quoting.

Build an app when…

  • Users will open it regularly: weekly or more
  • You need the camera, GPS, offline use, biometrics or push notifications
  • Field staff work where the connection is unreliable
  • Subscriptions or in-app purchases are part of the business model
  • You can budget for OS updates and support after launch

Don’t build one when…

  • Customers will use it once or twice a year: a mobile website is better
  • A progressive web app covers every feature you need
  • The only goal is “having an app” with no clear user job
  • There is no plan or budget to market it in the stores
  • The same need is already met well by your responsive website

Make the right choice

Flutter vs React Native vs native: which is right for your app?

Each approach wins somewhere. We choose on performance needs, your team’s skills and the total cost of running two platforms.

FAQ

Questions about mobile app development

Straight answers to what buyers ask before commissioning an iOS or Android app.

Still have a question?

Ask us directly. A senior engineer reads every question.

Ask about your project

How much does mobile app development cost?

A focused cross-platform Flutter app costs £15,000–£35,000. A native iOS or Android app with complex integrations costs £25,000–£60,000. A full marketplace or enterprise app costs £50,000–£100,000+. The main drivers are the number of screens and user roles, integrations, payments, real-time features and whether you build once or twice. We give a written quote, with scope and exclusions agreed up front, after a free discovery call.

How long does it take to build a mobile app?

A focused MVP app typically takes 8–12 weeks. A full-featured app with integrations, push notifications and payment processing typically takes 16–20 weeks. Leave some slack for App Store and Google Play review on first submission. We build in two-week sprints and share test builds throughout.

Should I build for iOS, Android or both?

If your users are on both platforms, which is true for most UK and US audiences, build for both with Flutter: one codebase, two platforms, and significantly lower cost than two native apps. If your users are concentrated on one platform, or the app depends on deep platform features, start native on that platform and add the other later.

Flutter vs React Native: which should I choose?

Flutter is usually the best-value choice for new apps: near-native performance, a consistent custom UI and the most code shared between iOS and Android. React Native makes more sense when your team already writes JavaScript or TypeScript, or you want to share code with an existing React web app. Both are production-ready; we recommend based on your team and roadmap.

Is Flutter good enough for production apps?

Yes. Flutter is Google’s open-source UI framework for building native-quality apps from a single codebase, and Google’s own showcase includes apps from BMW, eBay, Alibaba and Google Pay. Performance is near-native on both iOS and Android for the vast majority of business and consumer apps.

Do you submit the app to the App Store and Google Play?

Yes. We handle the full submission process for both stores: developer account setup, App Store review requirements, privacy declarations, metadata, screenshots and Play Store listing optimisation. The apps are published under your own developer accounts, so you own the listings.

Who owns the app and its source code?

You do. Ownership of the source code and design files transfers to you on full payment, as set out in your contract, and the store listings and backend accounts are set up under your business. There are no licence fees, and any developer can continue the app after us.

Can you add AI features to our mobile app?

Yes. We integrate AI into mobile apps through APIs (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini) or on-device models (Core ML on iOS, TensorFlow Lite on Android). Common features are image recognition, voice commands, chat assistants and personalisation. On-device models keep data on the phone and remove per-call API costs.

How do you keep app user data secure?

We use secure authentication with biometrics where appropriate, encrypt data in transit and on the device, keep secrets out of the app bundle, apply least-privilege access to backend APIs and follow Apple and Google privacy requirements. For UK and EU users we design data handling to support GDPR requirements, and HIPAA-aware handling for US health apps.

Can you take over an existing app?

Yes. We regularly take over apps from other development teams. We start with a code audit, document what we find, agree a clear scope for fixing technical debt, and then continue development: so you have a clear picture of what you are inheriting before committing.

Do you offer post-launch support?

Yes, through optional support and maintenance plans agreed with you. These can cover bug fixes, OS compatibility updates when Apple and Google release new versions, and minor feature additions. We also offer monthly App Store Optimisation (ASO) retainers and ongoing feature development.

Do I need a mobile app or a mobile website?

Choose an app when users return often and need device features such as the camera, GPS, offline access, biometrics or push notifications. Choose a mobile website or progressive web app when usage is occasional, discovery through search matters most, or budget is tight. We will tell you honestly which fits before quoting.
