Logistics & supply chain software

Logistics software development built around how freight really moves.

We build transport and warehouse systems, fleet and route tools, and the automation that carries an order from booking to proof of delivery without re-keying. AI reads the paperwork and forecasts demand; your planners keep the decisions that need judgement.

The short answer

What does logistics software development involve?

Logistics software development means building the systems that plan, move, store and track goods: transport and warehouse management, fleet and route tools, carrier and EDI integrations, and customer tracking portals. Increasingly it also includes AI that reads delivery and customs paperwork and forecasts demand, so planners spend less time keying data and more time managing exceptions.

Most logistics businesses do not need to replace everything. The usual starting point is the gap between systems: orders arriving by email, PODs chased by phone, carrier invoices checked by hand. We build custom software where an off-the-shelf TMS or WMS does not fit, workflow automation to connect what you already run, and machine learning or AI integration where a step needs a prediction or has to read a document.

SpiderHunts Technologies is a UK-registered company with its registered office in London and the whole team in Lahore, building software since 2020 for businesses across the UK, USA, Canada and Europe.

What we build

Software and AI for logistics and supply chain teams

Each build is shaped around your lanes, sites, carriers and service levels. Most projects start with one of these and grow from there.

01

Transport management systems

Custom TMS for bookings, load planning, carrier selection, dispatch, tracking and rating: or a module that fills the gap your current TMS leaves.

02

Warehouse management software

WMS and warehouse apps for goods-in, putaway, picking, packing, stock counts and returns, with barcode scanning on handhelds and links to your ERP and sales channels.

03

Fleet management & route planning

Route planning with delivery windows and vehicle constraints, driver apps with proof of delivery, and fleet dashboards fed by your telematics provider.

04

Order-to-delivery automation

Orders from email, portals and EDI validated, booked with the right carrier, labelled, tracked and invoiced, with a person only seeing the exceptions.

05

Carrier, EDI & API integrations

Connections to carrier APIs for rates, labels and tracking, EDI with trading partners, and sync with ERP and accounting systems, with retries and alerts.

06

Document AI for logistics paperwork

AI that reads PODs, delivery notes, carrier invoices, bills of lading and commercial invoices, extracts the fields and checks them against your records.

07

Demand forecasting

Machine learning forecasts from your own order history, by site, lane or SKU, with ranges rather than single numbers, to support staffing, fleet and stock decisions.

08

Customer tracking portals

Branded portals and tracking links where customers book, follow shipments, download PODs and invoices, and get notified when an ETA changes.

Where the time goes

Freight moves in real time. The paperwork around it usually doesn’t.

Most logistics operations are held together by inboxes, carrier portals and spreadsheets. Here is what changes when the systems talk to each other.

Without joined-up systems

  • Orders arrive by email, PDF and EDI, and someone re-keys them into the TMS
  • Planners log into several carrier portals to find out where a shipment is
  • PODs and delivery notes are chased by phone before an invoice can go out
  • Carrier invoices are checked against rates by hand, or not at all
  • Customers call to ask where their delivery is because nobody told them

With SpiderHunts logistics software

  • Orders from every channel are validated and land in one place, with exceptions flagged
  • Tracking events from carriers and telematics feed a single live view
  • PODs are captured on the driver app or read by AI, and invoicing follows automatically
  • Carrier invoices are matched to agreed rates, with discrepancies queued for review
  • Customers get a tracking link and proactive updates when an ETA changes

Not sure whether to build, buy or automate?

Tell us where your operation loses the most time. We will say whether a custom build, an integration or an off-the-shelf tool is the right answer.

Examples

What logistics software looks like in practice

Illustrative examples of what we build, not client results.

Freight forwarding

Quote and booking desk

Rate requests arriving by email are read by AI, priced against carrier rate sheets, returned as a draft quote for approval and turned into a booking when the customer accepts.

Aim: faster quotes without re-keying rate requests

Wholesale distribution

Order-to-delivery pipeline

Customer orders from email, EDI and a web portal are validated against stock, allocated to a route, booked with a carrier and invoiced once the POD comes back.

Aim: orders flow to delivery without manual handling

Road haulage

POD capture and invoicing

Drivers photograph signed delivery notes in an app; AI reads the consignment reference, signature and any shortage notes, and clean jobs are released for invoicing.

Aim: invoices raised as soon as delivery is confirmed

3PL & fulfilment

Carrier invoice audit

Carrier invoices are parsed and every line is matched to the booked service, weight and agreed rate, with surcharges that do not match queued for review.

Aim: overcharges spotted before invoices are paid

Last-mile courier

Tracking portal with live ETAs

A customer portal combines driver app events and route progress to show live ETAs, sends updates when a delivery slips and lets recipients rearrange a failed drop.

Aim: fewer where-is-my-order calls

Cross-border trade

Customs paperwork preparation

Commercial invoices and packing lists are read by AI, commodity descriptions and values are extracted, and a draft declaration pack is prepared for a broker to check and submit.

Aim: less manual preparation of customs paperwork

How we work

From operations review to live logistics software

You see working software on your own orders, shipments and documents before anything goes live.

  1. Operations review

We walk through how an order moves from booking to invoice, which systems it touches and where people step in. The map is yours whether or not you build with us.

    Free
  2. Design & written quote

We decide what to build, what to integrate and where AI earns its place, and write down the edge cases: failed deliveries, split loads, missing PODs. You get a written quote with scope and exclusions.

    Typically 2–5 days
  3. Build on real data

Built in staging against your carrier accounts, EDI partners and sample documents, with regular demos to planners and warehouse leads who will use it.

Typically 4–8 weeks for a first release
  4. Parallel run & handover

The new system runs alongside the current process until outputs match, then takes over. Documentation, training and monitoring are part of launch, with an optional retainer.

Before you spend anything

When custom logistics software makes sense: and when it doesn’t

A packaged TMS or WMS is often the right answer. We will tell you when it is.

Build or automate when…

  • Your process is a competitive edge that packaged software would flatten
  • Staff re-key data between systems that already have APIs or EDI
  • You juggle several carrier portals to answer one customer question
  • Paperwork such as PODs and carrier invoices holds up billing
  • Licence costs rise with every site, user or shipment you add

Don’t build when…

  • A standard TMS or WMS covers your process with light configuration
  • Nobody on your side can own the system once it is live
  • The process changes every month and nobody agrees how it should work
  • Your order and delivery data is too sparse to forecast from yet
  • The saving is a few minutes a week

Choosing an approach

Custom build vs off-the-shelf TMS or WMS vs integration

Many logistics businesses combine all three: a packaged core, integrations around it, and custom software only where the process is distinctive.

FAQ

Questions about logistics software development

Straight answers to what operations and IT leads ask before they commit.

Still have a question?

Ask us directly. A senior engineer reads every question.

Ask about your project

What does logistics software development include?

Logistics software development covers the systems that plan, move, store and track goods. That includes transport management systems, warehouse management software, fleet and route planning tools, driver apps, carrier and EDI integrations, customer tracking portals and the automation that links them. Increasingly it also includes AI for reading delivery and customs documents and for forecasting demand, so staff handle exceptions rather than routine data entry.

Should we build a custom TMS or WMS or buy one?

Buy when a packaged TMS or WMS covers your process with light configuration, because it is usually cheaper and faster. Build when your process is distinctive, when licence costs grow with every site or shipment, or when you need customer portals and integrations the product cannot support. Many businesses keep a packaged core and add custom modules and integrations around it, and we will recommend that when it fits.

How much does logistics software development cost?

It depends on scope, so each project is quoted after a free scoping call. As a guide, our custom software typically costs £8,000–£80,000+, from a focused internal tool to a full platform. Business automation, such as order or POD workflows, typically costs £2,000–£5,000 for one workflow and up to £30,000+ for multi-system work. A focused machine learning model, such as a demand forecast, typically costs £8,000–£25,000.

How long does it take to build logistics software?

A focused internal tool or MVP typically takes four to eight weeks, and a full platform such as a custom TMS or WMS typically takes three to six months. A single automated workflow is typically live in one to two weeks, or three to six weeks when several systems are involved. Forecasting models typically take six to sixteen weeks from data review to production. Timelines are confirmed after scoping.

Can you integrate with our carriers, EDI partners and ERP?

Yes. We connect to carrier APIs for rates, labels and tracking, exchange EDI messages with trading partners, and sync orders, stock and invoices with ERP and accounting systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite and Xero. Where a partner has no API, we use file transfers or monitored browser automation. Every integration has retries, logging and alerts, so a failed message is noticed rather than silently lost.

How does AI read proofs of delivery, invoices and customs paperwork?

AI document extraction reads scanned or photographed documents, such as PODs, delivery notes, carrier invoices, bills of lading and commercial invoices, and pulls out fields like references, dates, quantities, charges and signatures. The extracted data is checked against your bookings and rates. Anything the model is unsure about, or that does not match, goes to a review queue, and customs declarations remain your broker’s responsibility to check and submit.

Where does AI genuinely help in logistics?

AI helps most where a step involves reading unstructured information or making a prediction: extracting data from documents, triaging customer emails, forecasting demand, predicting ETAs and flagging unusual shipments or invoices. Fixed business rules, such as booking a carrier for a known lane, are better handled by ordinary software. We use each where it fits, and we will say when AI adds cost without adding value.

Can you build fleet management and route planning software?

Yes. We build route planning that respects delivery windows, vehicle capacity and driver hours, driver apps with navigation hand-off and proof of delivery, and fleet dashboards that combine data from your telematics provider. Routing usually relies on proven optimisation solvers rather than machine learning, with ML added where it improves inputs such as expected stop durations or travel times.

Can machine learning forecast demand for our warehouse or network?

Usually, if you have enough consistent order history. We build forecasts by site, lane, customer or SKU from your own data, adding factors such as seasonality, promotions and holidays, and we show ranges rather than a single number so planners can judge the risk. We review your data first and tell you honestly if it is not yet good enough to forecast from.

Can you build a customer tracking portal?

Yes. We build branded portals and tracking links where your customers can book shipments, follow them on a map or timeline, download PODs and invoices, and receive email or SMS updates when an ETA changes. The portal pulls events from your TMS, driver app and carrier integrations, so customers see one consistent status rather than a patchwork of carrier pages.

Can you work with our existing TMS or WMS instead of replacing it?

Yes, and that is often the better option. We build integrations, automations and add-on modules around the system you already run, such as order intake, POD capture, invoice checks or a customer portal. Replacing a core system is disruptive, so we only recommend it when the current one genuinely blocks the way you need to operate.

Who owns the software and the data?

You do. Source code, documentation and workflows transfer to you on full payment, and cloud, carrier and AI accounts are set up in your name wherever possible. Your operational data stays in your systems, and where documents pass through an AI provider we use enterprise API terms under which the provider does not train on your data.
