The short answer

What is web application development?

Web application development is designing and building software that runs in a web browser — from a corporate website with a content management system to a multi-user platform. Unlike a static website, a web application has user accounts, dynamic data, API integrations and interactive interfaces.

Whether you need a website or a web application depends on what visitors must do. If they read, compare and contact you, a fast, well-structured website is enough. If they log in, place orders, see their own data or collaborate, you need a web application. A good web development company will tell you which one you need before quoting, because the cost difference is large.

SpiderHunts Technologies is a UK-registered company with a London office and engineers in Lahore. Since 2020 we have built websites, portals, ecommerce platforms and web applications for startups and established businesses across the UK, USA, Canada and Europe.

What we build

Web development services we provide

Every type of web presence, from high-converting marketing sites to complex SaaS dashboards. Every project is mobile-first and SEO-ready from the ground up.

01

Custom web applications

Data-driven web apps with user authentication, role-based access, real-time data, API integrations and admin dashboards, built with React or Next.js on a Python (FastAPI, Django) or Node.js backend.

02

Corporate websites

Professional, high-converting business websites with a CMS your team can use — Contentful, Sanity, Strapi or headless WordPress — multi-language support and full technical SEO from day one.

03

Ecommerce development

Custom ecommerce platforms and Shopify or WooCommerce builds: headless commerce, complex product configurators, B2B wholesale portals, custom checkout flows and multi-currency checkouts.

04

Portals & dashboards

Client portals, supplier portals, employee intranets, reporting dashboards and data visualisation platforms, with real-time data, charts and role-based access.

05

Progressive web apps (PWA)

Web apps that install like a native app, work offline and send push notifications — a mobile app experience without the App Store, built with Next.js and service workers.

06

Headless, API-driven & redesigns

Decoupled front ends on headless CMS and GraphQL APIs for speed and flexibility — and redesigns of existing sites that migrate content and are planned to protect the SEO equity you have already earned.

The problem we solve

Why your current website may be costing you business

A slow, outdated or poorly built website doesn’t just look bad — it loses customers quietly. Core Web Vitals are a Google ranking signal, and visitors leave slow pages before they load.

Without a well-built site

  • Slow pages losing Google rankings and visitors
  • A poor mobile experience that drives people away
  • No technical SEO foundations underneath the design
  • A CMS your team finds painful, so content goes stale
  • A generic template shared with thousands of competitors
  • No tracking, so nobody knows what converts

With SpiderHunts web development

  • Core Web Vitals optimisation, targeting sub-2-second load times
  • Mobile-first design built to work across devices
  • Technical SEO built into every component
  • An easy CMS your team manages without developers
  • Bespoke design that reflects your brand
  • GA4, heatmaps and conversion tracking from day one

Before you spend anything

When a custom build is worth it — and when it isn’t

Not every business needs a custom web application. Here is how we advise clients before quoting.

Go custom when…

  • Customers or staff need to log in and work with their own data
  • Search traffic matters and speed is holding your rankings back
  • You need integrations with a CRM, ERP, payments or booking system
  • Templates can’t express your brand or product
  • You have outgrown a website builder and its monthly fees

Stay simple when…

  • A five-page brochure site on a good template does the job
  • Nobody will update content or look at the analytics after launch
  • You are still testing the offer — a landing page is cheaper
  • Shopify out of the box already covers your store
  • The budget doesn’t allow for hosting and maintenance

FAQ

Questions about web application development

Straight answers to what buyers ask before commissioning a website or web app.

Ask about your project

What is web application development?

Web application development is the process of designing and building software that runs in a web browser, from corporate websites with a CMS to complex multi-user platforms. Unlike static websites, web applications have user authentication, dynamic data, API integrations and interactive interfaces. We design them to be fast, secure and able to scale.

How much does web application development cost?

A corporate website costs £3,000–£12,000. A full web application with authentication, a database and integrations costs £15,000–£60,000+. The main cost drivers are the number of user roles, integrations, custom design work and content migration. We provide a written quote, with scope and exclusions agreed up front, after a free discovery call.

How long does it take to build a website or web app?

A corporate website typically takes 2–4 weeks. A web application with user authentication and integrations typically takes 6–16 weeks. We work in two-week sprints, so you see progress and working software continuously rather than at the end.

Do I need a website or a web application?

If visitors mainly read, compare and contact you, you need a website. If they need to log in, place orders, manage bookings, see their own data or work with others, you need a web application. Many businesses need both: a fast marketing site in front of a portal or app. We will recommend the smallest option that does the job.

How do I choose a web development company for a UK or US business?

Ask to see live sites and check their load speed yourself, confirm technical SEO is part of the build rather than an extra, insist on a written quote with clear exclusions and code ownership set out in the contract, and read verified reviews on independent platforms. SpiderHunts is UK-registered, covers UK and US time zones, and is rated 4.8 on Fiverr across 944 reviews and 4.6 on Clutch.

Do you build mobile-friendly websites?

Yes. Every site we build is mobile-first by design and tested across device sizes. We target 90+ Google Lighthouse mobile scores and optimise for Core Web Vitals, because most visitors arrive on a phone.

Which CMS do you use?

We use headless CMS platforms such as Contentful, Sanity or Strapi for performance and flexibility, or WordPress — standard or as a headless backend — when your team already knows it. We choose based on who will edit content and how often, not on our preference.

Will my website rank on Google?

No one can honestly promise rankings, and we don’t. What we do is build the technical foundations search engines look for: structured data, semantic HTML, Core Web Vitals optimisation, canonical URLs, hreflang and XML sitemaps. Rankings then depend on your content, competition and links, which we can advise on.

Do you offer website redesigns without losing SEO?

Yes. We redesign and rebuild existing websites while preserving your SEO equity: mapping every old URL to a redirect, migrating content and metadata, and monitoring Search Console after launch — planned to give you a faster, better-converting site while protecting the traffic you already have.

Do you build ecommerce websites?

Yes — custom ecommerce platforms, Shopify and WooCommerce builds, and headless commerce architectures. We also build B2B wholesale portals, product configurators and custom checkout flows with Stripe and multi-currency support.

Who owns the website and code?

You do. On full payment, as set out in your contract, you receive the full source code, CMS and hosting access and documentation, with accounts in your company’s name. There is no licence fee, and any developer can maintain the site after us.

What happens after the website launches?

Support after launch is available through optional monthly maintenance retainers agreed with you, covering bug fixes, security updates, performance monitoring and content changes — or we can provide a documented handover to your own team.
