Local citation building puts your business name, address and phone number on the directories Canadians and search engines check, and makes every listing agree. When an old address, a former phone number or a duplicate lingers, customers call the wrong place and Google has less reason to trust your details.

Local citation building is the work of listing your business name, address and phone number, known as NAP, on directories, map platforms and industry sites, and keeping those details identical everywhere. A citation is any online mention of those details, with or without a link. Consistent citations help customers find you and support the trust Google places in your profile.
Citations support your Google Business Profile; they do not replace it. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and the profile carries most of the relevance. Citations add to prominence and confirm your details are real. That is why we pair them with Google Business Profile optimization.
Local citations in Canada have their own details to get right: postal codes in the A1A 1A1 format, one form of the province name, unit numbers written the same way every time and, for Quebec businesses, the French form of the name, since the Charter of the French Language governs French in commercial communication there.

What's included
What our citation work covers
Done by hand, recorded as we go.
01
Citation audit
We find where your business is already listed, what each listing says and where it conflicts with your Google Business Profile. Old names, past addresses, former phone numbers and duplicates all go into one sheet, ranked by how visible each listing is to customers.
02
Master NAP record
NAP consistency starts with one master version of your name, address, phone, website and hours, matching your Google Business Profile: Street or St chosen once, the unit number written one way, the postal code with its space. Every listing we touch uses it.
03
Core Canadian directories
We claim or create, then complete, your listings on YellowPages.ca, 411.ca, Canada411, Yelp and the BBB, with consistent details, categories, hours, descriptions and photos where the site allows them. A claimed listing is far easier to keep accurate than one left for anyone to change.
04
Apple and Bing
Not every customer opens Google Maps. We set up or correct your Apple Business Connect and Bing Places listings so the pin, hours, phone number and website match your Google Business Profile on the other main map platforms people use.
05
Industry directories
Trade associations and professional bodies often keep member directories. We find the ones that fit your trade, such as a contractors' association for a roofer or a professional directory for a clinic, and make sure your details there are current and consistent.
06
City-specific listings
Local chambers of commerce, business improvement areas and city guides list businesses by area. A listing with the chamber in the city you serve adds a relevant local mention, often with a link, and suits service-area businesses covering several neighbouring municipalities.
07
Citation cleanup
After a move, a rebrand or a new phone number, old details linger. Citation cleanup corrects what we can edit directly, requests changes through each site's own process where we cannot, and removes or merges duplicates so each site shows one listing.
08
Data sources
Some directories take their details from business data providers that pass information to many sites at once. Where it suits your business, we check what those sources hold, so an outdated record does not get copied back onto listings we have just corrected.
How it works
Our five-step citation process
Profile first, then everything else.
1. Audit
The free audit scores your Google Business Profile out of 100 and ranks the fixes. For citation work we add a listing search: where you appear, what each listing says and which old details are still circulating after a move or rebrand.
2. Fix and optimize
We correct the Google Business Profile first, because it is the master record everything else should match. Then we fix the highest-value listings: the core Canadian directories, Apple Business Connect and Bing Places, where errors are most likely to reach customers.
3. Reviews and citations
We build new citations on industry and city directories and clear duplicates. Where a directory carries reviews, such as Yelp or the BBB, we note any that need replies and add them to your review management plan if you have one.
4. Posts and content
Citations work best alongside an active profile. Where we also manage the profile, posts and photos mention the areas you serve, so the profile and the listings tell the same story about where you work and what you actually do for customers.
5. Track and report
We recheck corrected listings once edits have had time to go through, record any that reverted, and report profile performance from your own Google accounts, including a geo-grid for your main search. You keep the full listing log and every login.

FAQ
Local citation building questions, answered
The things Canadian business owners ask before they commission anything. If yours is not here, put it in the form.
Still have a question?
Ask us directly. A specialist reads every message.
A local citation is any online mention of your business name, address and phone number, whether on a directory, a map platform, a chamber of commerce site or a news article. It may include a link, but it does not need one. Citations help customers find you and confirm your details are real.
02
Which Canadian business directories matter most?
Start with YellowPages.ca, 411.ca, Canada411, Yelp, the BBB, Apple Business Connect and Bing Places, then add your local chamber of commerce and the associations for your trade. Accuracy matters more than volume, so a few correct listings beat a long list of thin directories.
03
Will citations get me into the map pack?
Not on their own. Citations confirm your details and add to prominence, but the Google Business Profile does most of the work on relevance, and distance depends on where the searcher is. Our guide on how to rank on Google Maps explains the rest.
04
What is citation cleanup?
Citation cleanup is correcting listings that already exist: old addresses, former phone numbers, wrong business names and duplicates. It matters most after a move, a rebrand or a new phone number. We correct what we can edit directly and use each directory's own process to request changes or removals elsewhere.
05
Should a service-area business list its address?
Not if it is hidden on your Google Business Profile. Google lets service-area businesses hide their address, and listings elsewhere should follow the same choice where the directory allows it. Never substitute a virtual office or co-working desk to get a visible address.
06
How much does local citation building cost?
It is scoped after the free audit, because the work depends on how many listings exist, how many are wrong and how many locations you have. Prices are in Canadian dollars, plus applicable GST/HST. Citations can also sit inside a wider local SEO services plan.
