Quick answer

Why is my Google Business Profile not showing?

If your Google Business Profile is not showing, the cause is usually one of eight things: it is not verified, it is suspended or disabled, it is new, you are searching from the wrong place, the search does not match your categories, a duplicate is competing with it, a recent edit is under review, or Google is filtering it.

Start by separating two problems. If the profile does not appear even when you search your exact business name, something is wrong with the profile itself: verification, suspension, a duplicate or a pending edit. If it appears for your name but not for searches like plumber near me, the profile exists and the issue is ranking: relevance, distance or prominence.

Work through the checks below in order, because the early ones are the quickest to confirm and the most serious to leave. Write down what you find and when, and avoid making several edits at once while you investigate. Each change can trigger another review, and a profile that is being edited constantly is harder to diagnose.

The diagnostic

Eight reasons a profile is not showing, in the order to check them

Sign in with the account that owns the profile before you start, so you can see any status notices Google shows the owner.

  1. Not verified. Until Google has verified the business, the profile may not show publicly in full. Check whether verification is still pending and complete it with genuine evidence of the business.
  2. Suspended or disabled. Guideline problems with the address, name, category or duplicates can lead to suspension. Look for a notice on the profile and do not create a replacement listing.
  3. New profile. A freshly verified profile has no reviews or history yet, so it may appear for its name long before it competes for service searches. Complete every section and start collecting reviews.
  4. Searching from the wrong place. Results depend on where the searcher is. Searching from home across the city is not the same as searching beside your premises. Test from several points, or use a geo-grid check.
  5. Search terms do not match your categories. If you are listed as a general contractor, you may not appear for roof repair. Check the primary category and services match the words customers actually use.
  6. Duplicates. Two listings for one business split reviews and confuse Google about which is real, so neither may show. Search your phone number and old addresses, then ask Google to merge or remove the extra one.
  7. Recently edited and under review. Changes to key details such as the name, address or category can go under review, and Google can ask for re-verification. Make one change at a time and wait before editing again.
  8. Filtered. Google can show only one of several very similar listings, for example related businesses at the same address in the same category. Make sure each listing is a genuinely separate business with its own details.

Symptoms

Match the symptom to the likely cause

What you see narrows the list quickly.

01

Missing for your own name

Usually verification, suspension or a duplicate. Check the owner account first. If the profile is suspended, read our suspended profile reinstatement page before submitting anything, so the first appeal carries the strongest evidence you have.

02

Shows for your name, not your service

The profile is live, so this is ranking. Look at categories, services and reviews, and compare with businesses already appearing. Our guide on how to rank on Google Maps covers relevance and prominence step by step.

03

Shows nearby, vanishes across town

That is distance at work, not a fault. You will usually rank best close to your address. The geo-grid check in our free local SEO audit shows where visibility drops off, so you can decide which areas deserve a strong service page on your website.

04

Disappeared right after an edit

The edit is likely under review, or Google has asked for re-verification. Do not keep changing details to force it back. If you are asked to verify again, our verification guide explains how to prepare.

Common mistakes

What to do while you investigate

Avoid

  • Creating a new profile to replace the missing one
  • Adding keywords to the name to rank faster
  • Switching to a virtual office address
  • Sending repeated appeals with no new evidence

Do

  • Record what changed and when
  • Make one edit at a time
  • Gather evidence: licence, signage photos, utility bills
  • Check every directory for old addresses

The things Canadian business owners ask before they commission anything. If yours is not here, put it in the form.

Ask about your profile

How do I know if my profile is suspended?

Sign in with the owner account and look for any notice about suspension, disablement or verification on the profile. If the listing has vanished from public results and you see a warning, treat it as a suspension and gather evidence such as licences and signage photos before you appeal.

Should I create a new profile if mine disappeared?

No. A new listing for the same business creates a duplicate, which can make the problem worse and may itself break Google's guidelines. Find out why the original is missing first. If it is suspended, request reinstatement through Google's appeal process with evidence such as licences, signage photos and utility bills.

Why does my profile show on my phone but not my customer's?

Because results depend on the searcher's location and the exact words they use. Your phone may be beside your premises, and you may be searching your business name. Your customer is somewhere else, searching for a service. Test the searches customers use, from the places they search.

Can a recent edit make my profile disappear?

It can. Changes to key details such as your name, address or category can go under review, and Google can ask for re-verification. During that time the profile may not appear as normal. Make one change at a time and wait for it to settle before editing anything else.

How do I fix a duplicate listing?

Find every version by searching your business name, phone number and any old addresses in Google Maps. If you control both, keep the one with the most history and ask Google to merge or remove the other. If someone else controls the duplicate, request ownership or report it through Google.

When should I get help?

Get help if the profile is suspended, if verification keeps failing, or if you have checked all eight causes and still cannot find the problem. A suspension appeal with weak evidence is hard to recover from, so it is worth having someone experienced review the case before you submit anything.
