AEO agency for US businesses that want to be the answer

Your buyers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews which company to call and what it should cost. The reply names a handful of businesses. Answer engine optimization is the work of making yours one of them. We do it remotely for US companies, on calls in your working hours, starting with what those assistants say about you today.

Quick answer

What is answer engine optimization?

Answer engine optimization, or AEO, means shaping your website and your wider online footprint so that AI assistants and search engines pick your business when they compose a reply. Instead of competing for a spot in a list of ten blue links, you compete to be named in the reply itself: the paragraph ChatGPT writes, the sources Perplexity cites, the summary at the top of a Google search, or the sentence a voice assistant reads aloud.

That matters because answers remove the list. A buyer who asks “which accounting software works best for a small construction company” gets a few names back. If you are not one of them, the buyer may never see a results page at all. Ranking well in Google still helps, because many AI answers are built from pages that already rank, but it no longer settles who gets mentioned.

What gets a business named is mostly clarity and corroboration: pages that answer the question directly, and a business described the same way across its own site, review sites and directories.

SpiderHunts Technologies Ltd is registered in the UK and works remotely, with no US office or staff. AEO is desk work on your site and listings, so we meet US clients by video inside their business day, East Coast to West Coast.

What we do

What our AI search optimization work covers

Eight workstreams. Most US sites need four or five of them, and the free audit decides which.

01

Prompt and question research

We build the list of questions your buyers actually put to AI assistants, from sales calls, support tickets, site search and People Also Ask. Many of the most valuable prompts have no search volume attached, because nobody typed them into Google as a phrase.

02

Answer audit across engines

For each question we record what ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Overviews say, which businesses they name and which pages they cite, so you see who holds the answers today.

03

Answer-first page rewriting

Each heading becomes the buyer’s question and the reply sits right under it, before any background. Steps get numbered, comparisons get a table. Our writers draft the changes; your team signs them off.

04

Structured data

Schema.org markup for your organization, services, products and FAQs that states the same facts the visitor sees, checked again whenever the page copy changes so the code never says something the page does not.

05

Crawler access

We check that the crawlers behind AI search can reach your pages: OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search, PerplexityBot, Bingbot for Copilot and Googlebot for AI Overviews. A firewall rule, CDN setting or old robots.txt line can block one by accident.

06

Brand and entity consistency

An assistant can name a business more confidently when every source describes it the same way. We align your name, category, services and pricing language across your site, Google Business Profile, Bing Places, review platforms and directories.

07

Citation-worthy pages

Assistants cite pages that hold something worth citing: honest pricing ranges, fair comparisons, original data and plain answers to eligibility questions. We write the pages your category is missing, not another round of generic blog posts.

08

Monthly answer tracking

AI answers change from one run to the next, so we check each question several times on each engine and report how often you are named, the sources cited and what changed.

AEO and GEO

Where generative engine optimization fits

Two labels for overlapping work. The difference is in what you are trying to win and how you measure it.

Answer engine optimization grew out of featured snippets and voice search: one question, one answer, one source. Generative engine optimization, usually shortened to GEO, describes the newer problem of being included in a longer, generated reply that blends several sources, such as a ChatGPT recommendation or a Perplexity research summary. In practice US buyers and agencies use the two terms almost interchangeably, and the same techniques serve both.

The overlap is answer-first writing, clean structured data and pages a crawler can reach. Where GEO asks for more is corroboration: an answer that recommends three vendors leans on what reviews, directories and comparison articles say about them. That is why our work does not stop at your own pages.

We report both the same way: for a fixed set of buyer questions, how often each engine names you and which of your pages it cites.

How it works

How AI assistants decide which business to name

Each engine builds its answers a little differently, which is why we check them one by one.

  1. Step 01

    Retrieval

An assistant with search turned on first pulls pages from an index. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode use Google’s index, Copilot uses Bing, and Perplexity and ChatGPT search use their own crawlers plus other sources. A page the right engine has not indexed cannot be cited there.

  2. Step 02

    Selection

The system favors passages that answer the question directly, close to a heading that matches it. A good answer buried under an introduction often loses to a weaker one that leads with it.

  3. Step 03

    Corroboration

For recommendation questions, the assistant looks for agreement across reviews, directories, comparison pages and coverage. A business mentioned consistently in trusted places is a safer name to give.

  4. Step 04

    Description

The assistant then writes a sentence about each business it names, borrowing wording from what it found. If your pages describe you vaguely, the answer will too.

Choosing an agency

Choosing an AEO partner in the US

Questions worth asking any agency, us included, before you sign.

Start by asking to see the question set. A serious agency can show you, for your category, what each engine says today and who is named instead of you. If the first deliverable is a generic SEO audit with “AI” in the title, you are buying classic SEO under a new label.

Then ask who changes the pages. Plenty of teams already use ChatGPT for SEO tasks such as drafting outlines, meta descriptions and first-pass FAQs, and that is fine. It is a different thing from deciding which answers your site should own, rewriting the pages so they own them, keeping schema in step with the content and tracking the result. An AI SEO agency that hands over a list of recommendations and leaves the rewriting to you will move slowly if you do not have writers to spare.

Finally ask how results will be reported, and be careful with anyone who promises placement in ChatGPT or a fixed spot in AI Overviews. Nobody controls those answers.

Why this matters

If the answer names three companies and you are not one, there is no page two

Generated answers compress a results page into a short list. That only helps if you are on it.

Common gaps

  • ChatGPT recommends competitors for questions your site answers better
  • Your pricing, service area and audience are vague, so assistants describe you vaguely
  • A firewall or CDN rule quietly blocks an AI crawler
  • Review sites and directories describe your business three different ways
  • Structured data is missing, or no longer matches the visible page

What we change

  • Each tracked question has a page that answers it directly
  • Your category, audience and price language are stated plainly and consistently
  • Nothing on your side blocks the crawlers behind each engine
  • Third-party listings agree with your own site
  • Answers that name you are tracked monthly, engine by engine

In practice

Moments where a US buyer asks an assistant first

Illustrative scenarios showing how we would approach each one. They are not client stories or results.

SaaS shortlist

A software buyer asks for a shortlist

For example, a payroll software company might want to be named when a restaurant owner asks ChatGPT for the best payroll tool for tipped staff. That needs a page written for restaurant operators, plus reviews and comparison sites that describe the product the same way.

Pricing

A homeowner checks a price before calling

For example, a roofing contractor in Phoenix might want to be cited when someone asks Perplexity what a roof replacement runs in Arizona. A published range, with what pushes a job up or down, gives the assistant something to quote.

Head to head

A buyer weighs you against the market leader

For example, a B2B software vendor might want its own comparison page to be the source when a buyer asks Copilot how it differs from the best-known product. A fair table that admits where the rival is stronger is more likely to be quoted than a one-sided sales page.

Candidacy

A patient asks whether a treatment suits them

For example, a dental practice in Chicago might want to be the source when someone asks Gemini whether they are a good candidate for clear aligners. A plain list of who is and is not suited, before any sales copy, is easier for an assistant to use.

How-to

An owner asks how a process works

For example, a CPA firm in Dallas might want to own the answer when a business owner asks how to change the way their company is taxed. Short numbered steps, each starting with what to do, are simple for an assistant to reuse.

Local

Someone asks for a provider nearby

For example, a home services company in Atlanta might want to be named when someone asks Gemini for a reliable HVAC company nearby. These lean on Google Business Profile and reviews as much as page content, so we run them with local SEO.

How we work

Audit, prioritize, rewrite, track

Four stages, and you can stop after the first one. The audit costs nothing and you keep the report either way.

  1. 1. Free AI visibility audit

We build a question set with you, run it through the major assistants and record who gets named and cited. We also check indexing in Google and Bing, crawler access, page structure and schema.

  2. 2. Prioritize

We separate the answers you can win with better pages from the ones that need more corroboration first. The plan puts the quick wins first, shows the work each answer needs, and names the prompts we think are not worth your money yet.

  3. 3. Rewrite and build

We rewrite pages answer-first, write the missing ones, fix crawler and schema issues and tidy your third-party listings. Nothing goes live without your approval.

  4. 4. Track and report

Each month we rerun the question set on each engine, report how often you are named and which pages are cited, and agree the next changes on a call in your working hours.

Honest fit

When AEO is worth the spend for a US business

AEO pays off when buyers do their research before they reach out. If the basics are not in place, we will point you elsewhere rather than sell you a retainer. Comparing several firms? Our US guide to picking an SEO company lists the questions that separate them.

A good fit when…

  • Your buyers research, compare or ask questions before they contact anyone
  • You can say plainly what you do, for whom and roughly what it costs
  • Your site can be edited without a months-long approval cycle
  • You want the rewriting and fixes done for you
  • You are comfortable working remotely, by video call

Not the right fit when…

  • Your site is not indexed properly yet; fix that first with core SEO
  • Your procurement rules require a supplier with a US entity or in-person meetings
  • You want a promised placement in ChatGPT or AI Overviews written into a contract
  • You would rather keep pricing and qualifying detail off your site entirely

FAQ

AEO for US businesses: FAQs

What US buyers ask about answer engine work before they commit to it.

Still have a question?

Ask us directly. A senior engineer reads every question.

Ask about your project

What does an AEO agency actually do?

It finds the questions your buyers put to AI assistants, records who gets named today, then changes your site and listings so you become a stronger candidate. The workstreams are listed above; the point is that the agency does the changes, not just the diagnosis.

Is ChatGPT SEO a real discipline, or just SEO with a new name?

Both, in part. Much of what helps you appear in ChatGPT is ordinary good SEO: indexable pages, clear content and a credible reputation. What differs is the target. You are trying to be named inside a generated answer rather than rank in a list, so the work leans harder on answer-first structure, consistent descriptions of your business across other sites, and tracking what the assistant says about you.

How is AEO different from GEO?

AEO started with single direct answers such as featured snippets and voice replies. GEO describes being included in a longer generated answer that blends several sources, such as a ChatGPT or Perplexity recommendation. The techniques overlap heavily, and we report both the same way: how often each engine names you for the questions that matter.

Can you get us mentioned in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews?

We can make you a much stronger candidate, but nobody can promise a mention. Each assistant decides what to include, answers vary between runs and the systems change without notice. We commit to doing the work that gives assistants clear reasons to name you, and to reporting honestly on what they say.

How long before AI answers start to change?

It varies too much to give you a date. Fixes such as unblocking a crawler or rewriting a page answer-first can show up once the engines recrawl the page, and engines that search the web live tend to pick up changes sooner. Recommendation questions in crowded categories usually take longer, because they depend on what other sites say about you. Your audit report flags the prompts where a page fix alone could make a difference, so you know where to look first.

How much does AEO cost for a US business?

AEO is delivered as our Get Found in AI Search package, priced from £1,500 a month on our packages page. The free AI visibility audit comes first and costs nothing. Three things move the monthly figure: how many prompts we track, how many pages need rewriting or writing from scratch, and how many sites, brands or locations are in scope. Your written quote converts the price to dollars at an agreed rate, and that dollar amount is what you are invoiced.

Do you have an office in the United States?

No. SpiderHunts Technologies Ltd is a UK company whose team works remotely, with no US office, US subsidiary or US-based staff. The work happens in your CMS, your Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools accounts and your listings, and we agree a regular meeting slot inside your business day.

Should we block AI crawlers such as GPTBot?

It depends on what you are blocking. GPTBot collects data for training OpenAI’s models, while OAI-SearchBot is what lets your pages appear in ChatGPT search results, so some sites block the first and allow the second. Google-Extended controls use in Gemini models, but Google AI Overviews rely on the normal Googlebot crawl. We set out the trade-offs for your site and you make the call.

How do you measure something that changes every time you ask?

We run each tracked question several times on each engine every month and report the share of runs that name you, how you are described and which pages are cited. Over a few months that gives a trend you can trust more than one screenshot, shown next to your Search Console and analytics figures.

Who do we contract with?

SpiderHunts Technologies Ltd, registered at Companies House under number 16718403, with a registered office at 182-184 High Street N, Office 14607, London E6 2JA. You work to a written scope, are invoiced in US dollars by ACH, wire or card, and we can complete a W-8BEN-E for your accounts payable team.
