Using Chat Logs as a Content Brief

Last updated:

Real questions in real words

Keyword tools tell you what people search for in aggregate. Your chat log tells you what your visitors, on your site, could not find out.

The second is far more actionable, and it comes with the exact phrasing they used.

Turning it into content

  1. Group the unanswered questions by topic
  2. Count them — frequency decides priority
  3. Write the answer as a real page, using their words
  4. Recrawl so the bot can use it
  5. Watch that question stop appearing in the log
The loop closes visibly. A question asked eighteen times in March and never again in May is a content problem you can prove you fixed.

It improves more than the bot

  • Pages that answer real questions rank for those questions
  • Fewer emails asking the same thing
  • Better conversion, because objections get answered before contact
  • Sales conversations that start further along

Look at the phrasing

Customers rarely use your internal terminology. If they ask about “call-out charge” and your site says “attendance fee”, that mismatch is costing you.

Adopt their words on the page, or at least include both. It is a free improvement to both search and comprehension.

Review it on a schedule

Weekly for the first month, monthly after that. Fifteen minutes, with the top five turned into work.

The businesses that do this consistently end up with a website that answers everything, which is the point.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions before a pattern is real?

Three or four of the same thing is worth acting on. Once is noise unless it is important.

Should every question become a page?

No. Group them — one good page usually answers five related questions better than five thin ones.

Does this help our search rankings?

Frequently, yes. Pages answering real questions in real language tend to perform well.

What if the questions are about things we do not offer?

That is useful too. Either say so clearly on the site, or reconsider whether you should offer it.
