For a business needing a presentable site they can edit themselves, with no technical involvement, Squarespace and similar are a reasonable choice.
Dismissing them is snobbery. They handle hosting, updates and security, which is the part most small businesses neglect.

Choose on honest self-assessment
Will someone in your business actually maintain a WordPress site, or pay someone to? If neither, a hosted builder is the better choice and it is not a compromise.
If you need functionality or integration that a builder cannot provide, WordPress is the answer and the maintenance is part of the deal.
