Ranges are wide because content volume and functionality vary enormously between two projects that sound identical.
What actually drives the price
- Content — how many pages, and who writes them
- Custom functionality — anything a plugin does not already do
- Integrations with your other systems
- Design — adapting a theme versus designing from your brand
Page count matters less than people expect. Twenty pages of the same type is a template and twenty entries; five genuinely different templates is more work.
What should be included
- Responsive design, tested on real devices
- Basic technical setup — titles, sitemap, structured data
- Analytics and conversion tracking configured
- Forms delivering reliably, through proper SMTP
- A short handover guide and training
A quote missing any of those is quoting less than a working website.
What is usually extra
Copywriting, photography, ongoing maintenance, hosting, and anything discovered mid-project. Those should be stated as extras rather than assumed either way.
Ask specifically what is not included. That question moves more quotes than any other.
Cheap quotes are usually missing something
A £600 business website is a theme with your logo on it, which is sometimes fine and should be described as that.
