Every month, a handful of free boxes and a lot of hoping
Each month you send boxes to creators: some who asked, some you approached, a few who posted about you before. The arrangements are in Instagram DMs and TikTok messages. Some agreed to post, some said 'if I like it', some are paid. Their addresses are in the DMs too, copied into a shop order marked as free, or written on a sticky note for packing day.
Two weeks later you scroll through tagged posts to see who posted. A few did. Some posted a story that has already gone. Some never posted. A creator emails asking where their box is; it went to an old address from last year's list.
Seeding runs outside every system
Creator boxes are business-critical but treated as favours. They sit outside the subscription app, outside the packing plan and outside your reporting.
- Creator addresses and agreements live in direct messages.
- Seeding boxes are added to packing by hand, as free orders or notes.
- Nobody records what each creator agreed to do.
- Stories disappear before anyone logs them.
- Signups from each creator are not tracked, or share one generic code.
So every month you spend money and boxes on seeding without being able to say which of it worked.
What untracked seeding costs
Each seeding box is a full box plus postage. Sending to creators who never post, or whose audience never signs up, uses budget that could have gone to creators who work. Lost boxes and wrong addresses mean sending twice. And without records, the same creator can be chased twice or thanked by nobody.
Declared paid partnerships add a layer: you need to know which creators were paid or gifted and what disclosure was agreed, which your own adviser decides.
The seeding list we build
- A creator list with handle, platforms, address, relationship type (gifted, paid, affiliate) and what was agreed, with a notes field for the conversation.
- Creators confirm their address through a short form link, so nothing is copied from DMs.
- Each month's seeding boxes are added to the packing plan as their own batch, with the creator's name on the pick sheet and label.
- Each creator gets a unique discount or referral code, created in your shop or subscription app.
- Posts on your own tagged mentions are gathered where your platform's business access allows, and a person can log stories or posts manually with a link and screenshot.
- A monthly view shows, for each creator, the box sent, whether they posted, and signups using their code.
| Creator status | What the list shows | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Box sent, not yet posted | Dispatch date and tracking | Gentle reminder after your set time |
| Posted | Link, date, platform | Thank you and consider for next time |
| Posted, code used | Signups using their code | Candidate for a longer arrangement |
| No post after follow-up | Box sent, no activity | Your decision on future seeding |
The system tracks what happened. Who to seed and on what terms stays your decision, and any disclosure rules for paid or gifted posts are for you and your adviser.
Seeding you can learn from
Seeding boxes are packed in their own batch on packing day, with confirmed addresses. When a creator posts, the post is logged with its link. Codes show which audiences actually convert. After a few months, you can see which creators to keep working with and which kinds of creator bring subscribers who stay.
When a creator asks where their box is, the tracking number is one click away.
Is your seeding tracked in DMs?
- Creator addresses are copied from direct messages.
- Seeding boxes are added to packing from a note.
- You scroll tagged posts to see who posted.
- Most creators share one generic discount code.
- You cannot say which creators brought subscribers.
